Introduction

Aloo Matar Tikki is a popular Indian street food snack made from mashed potatoes, peas, and spices. Wadi/Vadi is a dried lentil lentil cake that is often used in Indian cuisine. This recipe for Aloo Matar Tikki with Whole Wadi/Vadi is easy to follow and makes a delicious and satisfying snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 cup peas, cooked and drained
  • 1/2 cup whole wadi/vadi, soaked in water for 30 minutes and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, cooked peas, soaked and drained wadi/vadi, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
  2. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Form the potato mixture into small patties.
  5. Fry the patties in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favourite chutney or sauce.

Tips

  • For a spicier tikki, add more red chili powder.
  • If you don't have whole wadi/vadi, you can substitute with 1/2 cup of chickpea flour.
  • These tikki can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through.
