Ulli Theeyal (Shallot Curry)

Ulli Theeyal is a traditional Kerala curry made with shallots, coconut, and tamarind. The curry has a unique flavour that is both sweet and sour.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon curry leaves

Instructions:

  • Grind the grated coconut and tamarind paste together to form a smooth paste.
  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Cook until they start to sizzle.
  • Add the curry leaves and cook for another minute.
  • Add the shallots and cook until they are softened.
  • Add the coconut paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Cook for another minute.
  • Add the water and bring the curry to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer the curry for 10 minutes, or until the shallots are cooked through.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti.

Good Price and Value for the product . I will order once again . Website can be improved more ,it was difficult to login as the site was keep on saying no valid user name. I registered by choosing CZ currency which is not valid for EUR . Payment option with paypal can be extended.

Had a very good meal in Dookan restaurant today. Masala dosa, sambar idly, on request family dosa and the best vadai/vada. Dosa and vadai were so tasty and crispy. Friendly staff.👌😋🌟
